This body of work seeks to probe the relationship between the moving body and the geometry of space. To paraphrase Oskar Schlemmer, ‘both the body and space have their own laws; which law shall be valid and make itself felt?’ This work attempts to bring awareness to viewer perceptions of the human body in space. The most striking pieces take the first step toward uniting human figures and defined spaces into an indissoluble unity.
Overlapping images highlight negative space as it changes with each movement. The grid enhances the geometry of the projected space. “Body Speaks” also begins to question perceptions about traditional flow and dynamics in dance, and the implications of placing the body within a certain set of guidelines.
